WUNC Public Radio, LLC Board of Directors
WUNC LLC Board meetings are generally open to the public and take place at WUNC's conference room located at 120 Friday Center Drive, Chapel Hill, NC, or in WUNC's conference room at American Tobacco Campus, Bay 6, Ste 600, Durham, NC.
The LLC board meets three to four times this year, dates and times of the meetings are posted to our website in advance.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Board of Trustees has appointed a Board of Directors to provide strategic oversight to WUNC Public Radio, LLC. Following is a list of current members:
Teresa Artis Neal, Chairperson
Teresa Artis Neal of Cary is a media attorney at Trans World Radio in Cary. Previously, she was vice president of business affairs at a Turner Broadcasting subsidiary in Atlanta, Georgia and general counsel of Capitol Broadcasting Company in Raleigh. She has provided legal and strategic counsel to local, national and global media organizations. She currently serves on the governing boards of UNC Chapel Hill and UNC Rex Healthcare. Artis Neal is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and Harvard Law School. In 2016, she was the recipient of UNC’s Davie Award in recognition of extraordinary service to the University.
John Hood, Vice Chairperson
John Hood of Wake County is president of the John William Pope Foundation, a Raleigh-based grantmaking organization that supports public policy organizations, educational institutions, arts and cultural programs, and humanitarian relief in North Carolina and beyond. Hood served as chairman of the board at the John Locke Foundation from 2015-2021. Hood helped found JLF in 1989 and served as its president from 1995 to 2014. Since 1986, Hood has written a syndicated column on politics and public policy for North Carolina newspapers. He serves as a weekly panelist on “NC SPIN,” a political talk show broadcast statewide on both PBS North Carolina and commercial radio stations. Hood received his B.A. in journalism from UNC Hussman in 1988. In 2018, he earned an M.A. in liberal studies and a graduate certificate in nonprofit management from UNC Greensboro.
Kamrhan Farwell
Kamrhan Farwell is the Vice Chancellor of Communications at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She previously served as the Vice Chancellor and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at the University of Missouri. For the past four years, Farwell has led all institutional communications, including comprehensive marketing and media strategies that have helped rebuild and bolster the University of Missouri’s reputation. She was recently selected to join the American Association of University’s Public Affairs Network Steering Committee and has served on the executive committee for the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities Council for Strategic Communications since 2019. Prior to joining the University of Missouri, Farwell served for two years as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Communications at the University of Pittsburgh and five years as executive editor at the University of Texas at Dallas. Before her work in higher education, Farwell spent nearly 20 years as a journalist in California and Texas, where she led education coverage for a decade at the Dallas Morning News. She earned a bachelor of arts in communications from California State University, Fullerton.
Alexia N. Fields
Alexia Fields of Hope Mills is a Department of the Army Civilian and a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Alexia commissioned in the United States Army in 2002. She earned numerous awards and served in various posts around the world. Alexia is a longtime listener of public radio and a member of WUNC’s Leadership Circle.
Hannah Gage
Hannah Gage of Wilmington is a retired broadcast executive. A UNC-Chapel Hill journalism graduate, she is former chair of the UNC Board of Governors and the UNC-Wilmington Board of Trustees. She was a member of the WHQR Public Radio Board of Directors in Wilmington and has served on numerous regional and local business, civic and foundation boards.
Burke Koonce
Burke Koonce of Raleigh is an investment professional with a background in media. He is the investment strategist at Trust Company of the South, a Greensboro-based wealth manager. Burke graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992 and received an MBA from Kenan-Flagler Business School in 1998. A former reporter, Burke is the co-founder of Biltmore Films, which produces documentaries.
John Preyer
John Preyer of Chapel Hill is the Co-Founder and President of Restoration Systems, an environmental company specializing in wetland, stream, nutrient, and habitat mitigation, headquartered in Raleigh. Before founding Restoration Systems in 1998, Preyer worked in the United States Senate on environmental and defense issues as Legislative Director for Senator Lauch Faircloth of North Carolina. From 2002-2006, Preyer served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Coastal Federation, a non-profit environmental group advocating for coastal rivers, creeks, and wetlands. He worked closely on the formation of the North River Wetland Preserve, the largest saltwater marsh restoration project in North Carolina. Preyer graduated from UNC in 1990 with a B.A. in political science.
Raul Reis
Raul Reis of Hillsborough joined the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media as dean in July 2022. Before coming to UNC Hussman, Reis served for six years as dean of the School of Communication at Emerson College, where he was a tenured professor in the Department of Communication Studies. Prior to Emerson, Reis was dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Florida International University in Miami, Florida, from 2011 to 2016. He has 25 years of experience in academia and a track record for creating nationally ranked programs that have helped prepare students for the fast-paced world of digital media. Prior to entering academia, Reis worked for many years as a newspaper, television and magazine reporter and editor for Brazilian and U.S. news organizations. As a journalist, he covered politics, sports, city news and science and the environment, among other topics.
