The Chapel Hill Police Department says it has received nearly 100 more reports of car break-ins compared to this time last year.

The report from Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman released on Wednesday says a review of evidence fails to show it was inappropriate for the Raleigh officers to use physical force to take 32-year-old Darryl Tyree Williams into custody on Jan. 17.

Attorneys for the family of an unarmed Black man who died in Raleigh police custody say a recently released autopsy report suggests charges are warranted against the officers involved.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has labeled 32-year-old Darryl Tyree Williams' death a homicide. Williams died from “sudden cardiac arrest" related to cocaine intoxication and the police confrontation after Raleigh Police officers repeatedly used stun guns on him.

Williams died in custody last week after Raleigh police officers tased him. Officers were attempting to arrest Williams for drug possession but he resisted, according to the city's report. Activists want those officers fired and charged with murder.

Officers' stun guns made contact three times with Darryl Tyree Williams before he died at a hospital after being handcuffed, according to the report.

The Raleigh Police Department on Thursday released video footage from police-worn body cameras that show a chaotic scene as officers cornered the suspect who shot and killed five people, and wounded two others, in the Hedingham Neighborhood on Oct. 13.

Raleigh police spent days collecting and analyzing details from a shooting on Oct. 13, 2022, that left five people dead and two others injured. Now, officials have published new details on the shooting in a preliminary report.

Alan and Elise Thompson issued the statement Tuesday through a lawyer that acknowledged the pain caused by their son, Austin. They say they mourn for the five killed, including another son, James, who was among those slain.
