BYU issued the results of its investigation into the Aug. 26 match, reiterating it will not tolerate conduct threatening any student-athlete. As a result of the investigation, the university says it has lifted a ban on a fan who was identified as directing racial slurs toward Duke sophomore Rachel Richardson during the match.

Duke hiring Mike Elko makes it look like the Blue Devils are leaning into blue-collar, defensive-minded football. But they’re also hiring a man with an Ivy League degree, extensive experience of coaching at schools similar to Duke and someone who has aspirations for the team that are above average.

Elko, 44, was most recently the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M. He succeeds David Cutcliffe, who Duke mutually parted ways with on Nov. 28.

Nina King, 42, will be the first woman and the first person of color to be the athletics director at Duke. She will succeed Kevin White, and has worked under him since 2008.
